Operations-Related Tasks: Responding to systems faults and failures

FCs are often the first to respond to user observations of system faults and failures.

  • Monitor Personnel Safety System faults
    Fault Appropriate Action
    Warning Identification / Possibly file trouble report using the RMD System
    Trip (formerly known as Minor Fault before PSS upgrade) Identification / Reset action/ Notify system specialists
    Fault (formerly known as Serious/Major Faults before PSS upgrade) Identification/Reset action if allowed/Notify system specialists
  • Monitor Equipment Protection System (EPS) faults
    Fault Appropriate Action
    Water fault Identification / Notify system specialists / Reset action
    Vacuum fault Identification / Notify system specialists / Reset action
  • Beamline Equipment Protection System
    • BLEPS:Fault location and identification as capable
    • When appropriate, refer users (especially independent investigators) to beamline staff for assistance.
  • Insertion Device System
    • Determine ID Access Mode
    • Interpret/Relay System Status Messages
    • Notification to Systems Specialist
  • File trouble reports using the RMD system.
  • Monitor and approve work requests that describe work to be done on local beamlines (often a follow-up to filing a trouble report).
  • Approve and post Configuration Control Work Permits when work is to be done on a RSS component (often a follow-up to filing a trouble report).
  • Assist Conventional Facilities Group and the Main Control Room in monitoring the Liquid Nitrogen System.  Respond to instructions if needed.
