Welcome to sector 8-ID of the Advanced Photon Source (APS) located at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), a feature beamline of the upgraded APS. Sector 8-ID is operated by the Dynamics and Structure Group, which is part of the APS X-Ray Science Division (XSD). Sector 8-ID has 2 experimental stations enclosures that operate one at a time —8-ID-E (dedicated for Wide-Angle XPCS) and 8-ID-I (dedicated for Small-Angle XPCS). The beamline has been operating under the General User Program since October 2024. The beamline is identified in the proposal system as 8-ID-E,I (XPCS).

APS beamline end stations 8-ID-E and 8-ID-I are dedicated to the study of equilibrium and non-equilibrium fluctuations in soft and hard condensed matter respectively in the wide-angle and small-angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) geometry via x-ray photon correlation spectroscopy (XPCS) or x-ray intensity fluctuation spectroscopy (XIFS). End station 8-ID-I additionally supports a Rheology-SAXS-XPCS instrument to study fluctuations in complex fluids under driven conditions of shear.

The program in nanoscale structure and kinetics (GISAXS/GIWAXS instrument) formerly located at 8-ID-E has moved to the new beamline 9-ID-D (CSSI/GIXS/GI-XPCS).
