Comparable Beamline Options for Users

The Advanced Photon Source (APS) is scheduled to begin a one-year shutdown in April 2023, to install the new APS storage ring as part of the APS Upgrade Project. Users who normally conduct research at the APS will need to find alternate X-ray light sources and alternate beamlines for their experiments.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) owns and operates five user facility light sources in the United States, and some beamlines at those facilities offer comparable techniques and technology to many of the APS beamlines. Linked below is a matrix outlining alternative scientific destinations for APS users during the APS Upgrade installation period.

The upgraded APS is scheduled to return to operation in April 2024.
