Current Position

Senior Research Associate, Center for Advanced Radiation Sources (CARS), The University of Chicago

Background
  • Senior Research Associate, Center for Advanced Radiation Sources (CARS), The University of Chicago, 2012-present
  • Research Beamline Scientist, Center for Advanced Radiation Sources (CARS), The University of Chicago, 2005-2011
  • Postdoctoral Fellow, The University of Chicago/SUNY Buffalo, 2004-2005
  • Ph.D. Physics, University of Toledo, 2003
Activities

Lead Scientist in charge of advanced crystallographic experimental station and user program at ChemMatCARS (APS Sector 15)

Interests
  • High-resolution x-ray single-crystal charge density (HRXCD) studies under normal and extreme conditions.
  • A laser pump-probe experiments using both monochromatic and Laue methods to measure molecular excited states.
  • Photo-crystallography, a novel way to study photo-induced magnetic materials and molecular switches.
  • Chemical high-pressure crystallography using a diamond anvil cell.
  • Resonant diffraction studies.
Goals

As the lead scientist in charge of the development of the user program in advanced crystallography at ChemMatCARS, plus 12 years of synchrotron single-crystal diffraction experience, I feel that I have an obligation to speak for this community. If elected to the APSUO, I will focus on facility issues that have the potential to impact the scientific productivity of users.
