Scientists have discovered how natural biopolymers can significantly strengthen sand by acting like a microscopic glue between grains. The key finding is that the biopolymer xanthan gum forms strong, uniform bridges between sand particles, dramatically increasing the material’s strength. These insights help explain how environmentally friendly biopolymers can stabilize soils and sands, which could improve infrastructure, prevent erosion, and provide alternatives to traditional materials like cement and lime.
