Scientists used the powerful X-ray beams of the APS to examine a heavy fermion that shows an intriguing coupling when exposed to a charged density wave. Exploiting CDWs may lead to faster and more energy-efficient electronic devices and sensors and offer a route to improved superconducting materials.
