Visits by Non-experimenters

You must notify us in advance about your visit, so we can prepare a visitor’s pass. You will need to complete a visitor form to tell us about yourself and your planned visit.

The process for getting a pass depends on the reason for the visit:

Experiment observers

If you are coming to APS in connection with an experiment but you will not doany hands-on work, you may register either as a visitor (to receive a one-time gate pass) or as a user (to receive a user badge). User registration is recommended if you expect to make frequent visits or if you may need access to proposals. See the Site Access page for user and visitor registration.

Meeting/workshop attendees

If your meeting has a formal online registration form, your visitor's pass will be arranged as as part of your meeting registration. Otherwise, complete the visitor form on the Site Access page.
(If in doubt, contact your meeting organizer.)

Traveling companions

You may request access for persons traveling with you. Please complete a separate request for each person. See the visitor form on the Site Access page.

Minors

Persons under age 18 may enter the Argonne site and the APS experiment hall in certain circumstances. Please complete a separate request for each minor and indicate the reason for the visit; APS staff will contact you with more information. See the visitor form on the Site Access page.

Tours for the general public

The APS welcomes tour groups! Tours for the general public are organized centrally by Argonne. In this case, your visitor's pass will be arranged by the tour organizer.

Tours for specialized interests

Tours for researchers, VIPs, or others with a professional interest in APS can be organized. Please contact Rick Fenner 630-252-5280. Each visitor will need to complete the visitor form on the Site Access page.
