APS (NECAT) – NSLS-II (CBMS) – SLAC (LCLS/SSRL) Joint Workshop
Theme: The Evolving Role of Macromolecular Crystallography (MX) in Structural Biology
Date: September 26, 2025 Location: SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, Menlo Park, CA
Why Attend? This joint workshop will explore how macromolecular crystallography (MX) continues to evolve in the rapidly expanding structural biology landscape. As technologies like cryo-EM, NMR, neutron diffraction, and AI-based modeling platforms (AlphaFold, Rosetta, Boltz-2) advance, MX remains a core method for solving complex biological structures.
Join beamline scientists, AI developers, computational biologists, industry researchers, and academic leaders as they discuss how MX integrates with emerging tools over the next 5–10 years.
Who’s Speaking? The workshop features presentations and panels by leading experts from:
- National Laboratories: SLAC, APS, NSLS-II, LCLS, SSRL, ALS, ORNL, MacCHESS
- Top Academic Institutions: Standford, Cornell, UCSF, MIT, Columbia, Washington University, and many others
- Industry & Pharma: Genentech, Merck
- AI and Machine Learning Innovators: Boltz-2, Rosetta
All invited speakers are recognized specialists contributing to the advancement of MX, cryo-EM, AI-driven modeling, neutron diffraction, NMR, and integrative structural biology.
Key Topics:
- Synergy of MX with cryo-EM, NMR, and neutron diffraction
- Role of AI, automation, and machine learning in structural determination
- Advances in serial crystallography, time-resolved studies, and room-temperature data collection
- Facility sustainability, user access models, and industry collaborations
- Future directions in U.S. MX infrastructure
Interactive Program:
- Invited talks
- Spotlight sessions
- Panel discussions with facility leadership
- Concluding roundtable on future directions in structural biology infrastructure
Poster Session: All participants, including graduate students and postdoctoral researchers are encouraged to present their work during the dedicated poster session. This provides an excellent platform for feedback, networking, and collaboration.
