Abstract:
In the X-ray spectroscopy community, which has historically relied on ASCII files to store and share experimental data, the current ongoing transition to binary formats like HDF5 is often met with reluctance. NeXus is an effort by an international group of scientists to define domain-specific rules for organizing data within the structure provided by HDF5. In my talk, I will start by reviewing the tools that can be used to visualize and manipulate HDF5 files. Next, I will present a practical example of how to use NeXus to annotate spectroscopic data and the added value it brings.
