Abstract:
In this talk, I will discuss my work on implementation of advanced SEM characterization techniques into a pre-existing 3D serial sectioning workflow with registration against high-energy diffraction microscopy, with the final workflow intended to provide detailed and multi-scale microstructural data to future models of fatigue crack initiation and growth. I particularly will discuss the details of how I characterized the performance of my choice of HR-EBSD technique, as well as the addition of interferometric surface profiling to the serial sectioning process. For electron channeling contrast imaging, I will discuss my successes, difficulties, and a potential path forward via novel hardware. Finally, I will cover my implementation of automation for consistency in serial sectioning, and my mentorship of a graduate student in his efforts to improve the data registration workflow.
