Description

Abstract: The ISIS accelerator at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire, UK, has been growing its new Performance Improvement section for 5 years.  A team of three engineers and one student has been uncovering operational challenges and improvement opportunities.  Through a process of Horizontal Innovations, working with other industries, we believe that ‘many problems have been solved in someone else’s back yard’.  Ideas progress to solutions through projects, so we will report on how we do business, our mission, our methodology, and the progress of our successes. These projects include: Vibro-Acoustics in active environments, InfraRed cameras tracking magnet coil heating. FLD2.0, First Line Diagnosis, now four years on and becoming the backbone of ISIS’s fault analysis toolkit. We report some unintended consequences, continued challenges, and attempts to measure results. We will also cover the implementation of the Electronic Log for ISIS.
