If you are not an Argonne National Laboratory employee, a Master User Agreement (MUA) signed by your home institution is a prerequisite for work at any of Argonne's user facilities. Argonne’s User Facilities include:

• The Advanced Photon Source (APS)
• The Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM)
• The Argonne Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF)
• The Argonne Tandem Linac Accelerator System (ATLAS)
• The Intermediate Voltage Electron Microscopy (IVEM) - Tandem Facility
• Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM)
• Southern Great Plains (SGP)
• Bankhead National Forest (BNF)

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has formulated user agreements that cover liability, intellectual property, and financial issues. Sample templates of the agreements are available on the left sidebar. For some users that are from U.S. state and local governments and public universities, there may be certain alternative provisions on request.

If you are unsure if your institution has a Master User Agreement in place with Argonne, please contact [email protected]. 

If your institution does not have an active user agreement in place*, complete this User Agreement Questionnaire to initiate the process.

*If there is a limited agreement (e.g., a Strategic Partnership Project or Cooperative Research and Development Agreement) covering participants from your institution for research at the specific facility you plan to use, it will be valid during the transition to a master agreement.
