12-ID-E: High Resolution Small Angle X-ray Scattering

XSD
Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Polymer Science

The 12-ID-E houses two high-resolution (in reciprocal space) SAXS instruments: a long camera distance pin-hole SAXS and a USAXS instrument. The SAXS instrument is equipped with two area detectors in the 10m long vacuum flight tube for SAXS and WAXS, respectively. With the two detectors, it offers capabilities for simultaneous SAXS and WAXS, Anomalous SAXS and WAXS, and coherent SAXS for x-ray imaging and SAXS/WAXS for scattering. The USAXS instrument is a Bonse-Hart instrument equipped with two area detectors for SAXS and WAXS. In situ experiments are facilitated with ancillary equipment including furnaces, gas and liquid flow systems, stop-flow, high pressure, and burners.

Additional Information
Software
The SAXS instrument uses windows/linux workstation running SPEC and python GUI for data acquisition. Matlab based software is used for data reduction both in real-time and manually. Data analysis programs, which are for crystal analysis, form/structure factor analysis, background subtraction, integral analysis, and so on, are available at the beamline or downloaded from its web-page. Details of the USAXS instrument are found in https://usaxs.xray.aps.anl.gov/
