For example, no libraries supporting Motif are available for linuxmint

18, either in standard distribution or 3rd party. The only choice is to

build from source. Or to downgrade to linuxmint 17.3 or earlier.

Expect this pattern to occur in other OS. Indirectly, you are

describing that situation in MacOSX.
