Using an OPC server (Siemens or third party vendor) and OPC Device
Support is a third alternative. [1]
Introduces an additional protocol layer (and IOCs running Windows), but
lets you integrate many different PLCs from different vendors in a
streamlined, uniform way.
At HZB, we were evaluating S7plc, a CAN field bus interface and OPC
Device Support, and decided to make the OPC option our future standard
for PLC integration.
