Kate, I agree that the choice of a record is not a big issue.
But the transform record crashing under any circumstances is a
big issue to me, and I appreciate the notice. If you have
any more data about this, that might help me find the problem,
please spill.

You use vxWorks. We use RTEMS.
A generic record such as "dfanout" works very well for the purpose.
In fact, I do not think a custom record such as a "transform" record is
needed.
FWIW, we at SSRL use the transform record (v5.7) with RTEMS (v4.7.1)
and EPICS 3.14.8.2 and do not experience any crashes.
We never had any crash in the past either until the applications becomes
complicated. Again, this is just my courtesy gesture. The system works
very
well by using the EPICS record listed in the "Record Reference Manual"
that I do not see this as a big issue. It's your choice.
