Hi Marty,

Thank you very much for your advice!  The problem turned out to be the
-cport option.  It should have been 5064, because I did not specify the
port to use on my frontend (IOC).  And I misunderstood the ALIASes, then
ASL etc.  Now the path is through.

However I still have 2 issues:
1. multi-element PVs timeout -- I tried longer timeouts, no help;
Read operation timed out: some PV data was not read.

   on the client end.  On the gateway side, still get 

CAC: Unable to connect because "Invalid argument"

And there is a strange udp connection (on the gateway node):
udp        0      0 atflap2.fnal.gov:32889      255.255.255.255:5065        ESTABLISHED

It seems somehow I am creating a loopback -- but I am not specifying 5065 anywhere.

Please give me more advices.
