Hi Matthew,

Hi,

At DLS we're thinking about deploying alarm handling software on the
beamlines. At this stage the only requirements we have are logging and
notification (via e-mail for example).

The aim is to set up the software as a daemon on the beamline server
machines, not the control cabin user machines. Running the standard
EPICS alarm handler is proving a little inconvenient on these machines,
as it involves running an X server and VNC server.

For the users we still plan to run the standard alarm handler as a
passive client, so that they can visually see the current state of
beamline alarms (using the same ALH configuration file).

For the alarm handler server side, does anyone have any solution that we
can look at?

We're running EPICS 3.14.8.2, so I think we can't take advantage of the
alarm pushing IOCs talked about at the DESY 2007 workshop.
Well - looking at the documentation - you're right.
The functionality is much better: We are running sendAlarms on the IOC now on 12 IOC's in production.
Three interConnectionServers run in redundant mode sending alarm messages to two redundant ActiveMQ JMS servers.
An alarm-tree and alarm tables run in CSS.
This covers the View part...

The Alarm Management System is generating SMS messages as well as sending e-mail.
This covers the active part...

Most of it was described during the EPICS meeting at DESY.

Some info on the IOC part is here: (very basic)

btw:
Helena Pruchova also looks for the same kind of solution.
Maybe she found an easy one?
