We are using Data Translation DT1451 boards.  They are VME boards
with very little on-board processing.  They can do things like
add images.  I have ported the DT-IRIS package to run under vxWorks,
and it provides about everything the original did.  We don't use a
direct EPICS interface, but that should be easy enough to do.  These 
modules are no longer in the catalog, but DTI would probably make
you one.  They are at http://www.datatranslation.com.
