Also, you can set the SCAN field (to "Passive"/0). However, this just
turns off periodic scanning, not scanning via links or via CA puts.
Yet another possibility is to set the record to simulation mode
(https://wiki-ext.aps.anl.gov/epics/index.php/RRM_3-14_Common#Simulation_Mode),
which does not disable processing but just redirects the record's
input/output.
