I actually tried that as well, specifying an initial "value" for the
record to be the empty string (which is supposed to be the default
anyway) behaves exactly like specifying no initial value at all, and
produces the same messages.

But I agree that it appears there's something about what pcaspy is
presenting that might be problematic.
