This is of course generating cothreads. You can always call the standard Python thread creation mechanism, but more care is needed when communicating with the created threads.

Ouch, I'd like to know more about this. I run numerous cothreads with huge numbers of frequent updates for many months without any issues, so I've not encountered any problems that sound like this.
