It sounds like you have two problems.   Generating an SDDS file is a separate issue from displaying waveforms in the MEDM window.
The fact that you see nothing in the plot region of the screen makes me think that there may be something wrong with your MEDM installation or the IOC that's acquiring the data.  

To check the latter, you could try doing a 'camonitor' of one of the scope waveform records.  Do the numbers look reasonable?  Does the camonitor program produce a new waveform record each time that the scope triggers?

Have you ever been able to display a waveform record using the MEMD Cartesian Plot widget?  Try creating a simple MEDM screen with a Cartesian Plot widget that gets its value from a scope waveform record and see if you can see the values.
Have you changed the waveform record names so that the MEDM widget can't find the data?
