Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System
|
Hi Martin,
Thank you for your response. Open source projects. Added to the list. I think I had Control Systems Theory in grad school. My thesis was entitled "Precise control of the Stewart platform using principles of the modern Automatic control theory". But thanks, anyway, for pointing this out, now at least I know this wasn't for nothing. In any case, I think the Signal processing class would be fine to refresh it in memory.
About your advice on working at a small institute. That's what I do now. Again, no professionals here who I could consult with in person.

I agree with Benjamin. In addition to that the open source idea becomes
more and more important. Some experience in contributing to such
projects could be helpful.

Some systems theory and control theory would be a good choice. The
former is about the theoretical stuff like Fourier/Laplace/z transform,
mathematical background regarding filters etc. It typically deals with
both analog and digital systems. Control theory is about building
feedback systems - and how to do it right ;-)
In my opinion the best place to learn a lot of this stuff is a small
institute which does not have experts for everything. This way you are
forced to learn the basics of all this stuff...
Hope that helps
Martin
P.S.: My background: MSc. in physics, still working on my PhD
(FPGA-based low level rf control system for the S-DALINAC, a
superconducting electron linac).
