Subject: multi-threaded client example

I would like to create a c++ client which is capable of handling monitors as well as doing other things, e.g. write to a PV in response to some event. To this end I am looking for example code that covers the essential aspects of creating a multi-threaded client. Can someone recommend a basic example to look at?
