I've put together a simple set of steps to get started with ASYN/ VXI-11.. I've sent a copy to Zenon. If it's found to be useful I'll put a copy on the EPICS Wiki.

I am having difficulties installing a support package for Agilent E2050
ethernet-GPIB gateway device. I got the package from
http://www-csr.bessy.de/control/SoftDist/gpib/ The installation
instructions are not clear. This is an extract from the lanGpib.pdf
file:

This section explains how the lanGpib driver is installed in an existing
EPICS environment. By far the easiest way to install the package is to
create a seperate <top> area (named, for example, 'GPIB') with
makeBaseAp.pl (this requires that you use EPICS3.13.1 or later). Copy the
tar file into the new <top> directory and unpack it. You may need to
adapt the config/RELEASE resp. config/RELEASE.<arch> to your local EPICS
configuration. Then 'make' everything from the <top> directory.

First of all I assume that the author of the note ment makeBaseApp.pl in
epics base? Perhaps not. The Makefiles which came with the package are
inconsistent with existing file names and directory structure created by
the makeBaseApp.pl. I am trying to install in the context of epics
R3.14.9. The instructions provided with the distribution seem out of
date. I guess I need up to date instructions. Any help will be
appreciated.

All the modules from that site are for EPICS 3.13 only. For 3.14 you should
use asyn. lanGpibSupport-2.4.c is a very old version that I don't recommend
to use. I won't provide support or fixes for this version. I still support
gpib-0.x, although it is not actively developed any longer and the last
release is from Jan 2006.

Cheers
Ben
