Heidenhain has a POSITIP device supporting their EnDat interface.
It is a serial-based device (the PT880) which can read
EnDat output from their encoders.  Look in this direction.

The PT880 is capable of handling up to 6 axes.

Are any EPICS users familiar with this model? I am just learning about these interfaces. If either of them goes directly to a standard serial port, then asyn support would seem to be ideal.
