Hi All,

I'm trying to record the start time and end time of a small application of mine on timing system. Hardware: EVG-110, IOC MVME5100. Software: Solaris 8, EPICS base 3.13.8, egRecord, erRecord, egeventRecord, ereventRecord, timestampRecord. The interval between the start time and end time should be less than 20 milli seconds. But I found that the start time and end time recorded are always the same, around the booting time of the IOC. The command 'date' on IOC gives the same time always, too. With this IOC, if I download other applications without the event system library, the command 'date' works correctly.
So is there something that I may miss setting up? Could anybody give me some suggestions?

The present timestamp driver (drvTS) is built so that when it sees that
event system cards are present it silently assumes that you want to use
them for maintaining the time also, unless you explicitly tell it not to do so. However, the event system has to be set up also before it is
able to deliver the timestamps.
The configuration of the timestamp mechanism is done with the call TSconfigure in startup script.
To use the event system, you need either to supply timestamp events from an external clock or configure the EVG to generate them internally.

I attached a document about the current drvTS implementation, with some comments about my thought to improve it (some time ago.) This is not a definitive document, so please use it for reference only.
We are in progress of rewriting the drvTS but day-to-day work always
seems to take preference so the progress is not as fast as we would
like. But it is in progress, anyway.

I hope this helps.

Timo

(ps. Ge, I still owe you the example templates. We try to put them together and send them to you.)

Thank you very much,

Ge
