Hi,
I am one of the APS beam line users responsible for beamline controls. I am in the market for a nice GPIB
RS232/RS485 VME-based solution running under EPICS only.
For my application HIDEOS is too much overhead. I think HIDEOS is an excellent system but its use, of course,
is application dependent.
I am currently using an IP carrier from SYSTRAN Corporation. This carrier is much better than Green Springs
especially from a hardware and software perspective:
1. Has 5-IP slots as opposed to 4
2. Cost per IP slot is cheaper
3. Reset IP cards on the fly with the reset register
There is a lot more, however, I'll just reference their home page (http://www.systran.com)
I am currently using an 8-channel DAC daughter card (i.e. DAC128V IP card) from Systran.
I thought the DAC128V was supported under EPICS. I found out later that only if you have HIDEOS.
The way that I am talking to my IP DAC is via the VME record developed by Mark Rivers (CARS-CAT).
So I am in dire need for a more permanent solution.
Is anyone using the GPIB 1014 by National Instruments under EPICS?
Thanks,
Ernest L. Williams Jr.
