Hi, Noboro,

The use of fields in the XWindows GC structure is strongly
discouraged in X11R5.  I hadn't yet gotten a copy of R6,
but Andrew wrote to say it wouldn't work.  Looks like I'd
missed a couple places in edd/dm 2.1 and didn't notice since
I compiled under X11R4 then.  However, it won't be an issue 
for those using the newest copy of edd/dm since that
problem has been fixed.

I would strongly encourage using the new release, but if you
or anyone else really want to use 1.16,  I suppose I could 
try to make it work.  There was a further complication since
the clip_mask of the "value" struct was not available using
XGetGCValues (according to the manual.)

I apologize for not getting a new release of edd/dm into
the EPICS extensions at ANL.  The newest release, 2.2, should
be available there soon.  Andrew's suggestion was to unbundle
the extension, which has some advantages.  It does, however,
make it more difficult to get all the tools one might want.
Jeff Hill has suggested that we might use DCE so that everyone 
developing tools could actually work in the same place and
check things in without having to make tar files, ftp, etc.
I just kept waiting to finish "one last thing" before doing
that, since I knew I'd have to do it again for the next
change.

my apologies for any confusion or inconvenience to those of you
building the edd/dm released with the EPICS extensions.  I will
send an announcement when edd/dm 2.2 is available there.
