To All,
Our Russian Collaborators from the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics are
visiting Duke this week. Los Alamos has approved the transfer of EPICS source to
them and we are proceeding to send a tape back with them.
I have advised them to subscribe to tech-talk. However, they wish to have some
idea of the present status of work toward PC type EPICS applications. They are also
intersted in using the LYNX/OS as the real-time layer. If those labs who are working
this problem could send us a very brief update, it would be helpful.
For those of you who do not know, the BINP is a major laboratory with excellent
basic resources. One of their near term goals with EPICS is to realize an Advanced
High Power FEL Control System. This effort will include the integration of a CAMAC
transputer system that is widely used in Russia. We have discussed the possible
commercialization of these and other unique Russian CAMAC function modules.
I also hope to establish contact between the IHEP in Moscow and the BINP in
Novosibirsk.
Best wishes,
Carl Dickey
