The Advanced Photon Source is a U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science User Facility

Argonne Facilities Management Services will begin renovations of the APS Building 401/402 Plaza on August 27, 2018. The schedule calls for completion of the project on November 17, 2018. This renovation involves a redesign that will decrease the amount of plaza concrete and add green space; these changes will enhance the aesthetics of the Building 401 entryway and reduce maintenance issues. The design of the plaza takes into account the desires of employees and users who participated in an online survey.

The parking area and plaza in front of the 401/402 Central Lab Office (CLO) Building will be closed to vehicular and foot traffic as of 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2018, for renovation of the Building 401/402 plaza.

Employees, users, and visitors are asked to look for parking in the other 401/402-adjacent lots and the overflow lot. Please refrain from parking on roads, which constitutes a traffic hazard. Accessible parking is available in the 402 lower gallery lot and the 401 lab-wing parking lot. Limo and bus pickup and drop-off will be at the 402 lower gallery parking lot. VIP parking will be located in the Bldg. 401/402 main entrance parking lot row closest to the building.

Foot traffic can enter the CLO by utilizing either the protected walkway from the 401/402 main entrance parking lot to the accessible ramp, which will remain open throughout construction, or the entrance to the APS 402 lower gallery. We strongly recommend utilizing the 402 lower gallery entrance.

The bike rack in front of the building will be removed during construction, so please utilize the bike rack outside of the 402 lower gallery during construction.
