Abstract:
Fourth-generation synchrotrons and free-electron lasers are opening compelling new avenues of scientific inquiry.  However, most experimental facilities still rely on conventional beamline hardware that prevents these priceless resources from operating at their full potential.  The creative application of modern robotics has the potential to greatly improve the productivity of new, state-of -the-art beamlines.  Technologies covered will include:

• Parallel robots for high precision support and positioning application
• Sample exchange robots
• Smart sample holders
• Detector positioning robots
