More problems come with the multi-touch features common to touchscreen displays. The GUIs in standard use do not consider the possibility that more than one widget is active at the same time. It is an assumption that only one control is active.

Imagine the mixed message a control system receives when GO and STOP buttons are both active. Or MOVE+ and MOVE-.

Proceed cautiously and expect that some features will need more attention.

FWIIS,  None of the existing EPICS GUI software have been designed or optimized for use with any touch screen device. While this is not much of an issue if you are just pushing buttons, it starts to get ugly if multiple displays are  the same screen, or you start to deal with numeric and text entry. Your probably still have to use a keyboard and mouse/pointing device more often that you would like, and lifting an arm to a screen to change options gets old VERY fast, as does resizing clickable regions to be finger sized and not mouse pointer sized.

If you have an apple/android phone/tablet, I would suggest installing caqtdm on that hardware. Would give you an idea of the general feel of using a touch device before you buy one. Or borrow someone touch screen windows laptop.

Dear all,

Im looking to a linux touch panel pc, I'll use that in the operators console, therefore the reliability is important. The size could be 19. Im planning to use that with CSS. Please give me your suggestions based on the experience.

Have you got models/brands good/bad  to this ?

Regards,

-Mauro
