Hi Ralph,
> Seems to support CameraLink and comes with an SDK. Is ADCameralink generic enough that it can be expected to "just work"[TM]?
Unfortunately no. This is from the documentation for ADCameraLink:
Camera Link has two parts: a serial port for camera control, and a high speed
data link for image data. The Camera Link driver is a class ADCameraLink, which
inherits ADDriver, and adds functions to interface to any camera link card. There
are special classes for the silicon software ME-4 (microEnable) grabber and Dalsa/Coreco grabbers.
There are 2 issues:
- ADCameraLink only has drivers for the Silicon Software ME-4 and Dalso/Coreco frame grabbers. I believe it has also only been tested on Windows, not Linux, but I could be wrong.
- Camera Link has a serial port for camera control. The commands that need to be sent over this serial port are camera-specific, there is no industry standard. So even if you use one of the supported frame grabbers you will need a driver that implements the correct serial commands for your camera.
That being said, many vendor SDKs for Camera Link hide the Camera Link interface, so you don't need to use the ADCameraLink drivers. But you do need to write a new AD driver that uses the vendor's SDK. This is how the ADAndor3 driver works, for example.

Subject: aD Driver for Opgal EyeR Core NV?
Another question to the areaDetector users, this time more thermal:
Is anyone using an Opgal EyeR Core NV camera [1] with areaDetector?
Seems to support CameraLink and comes with an SDK. Is ADCameralink generic enough that it can be expected to "just work"[TM]?
Thanks a lot,
~Ralph

Opgal's EyeR Core NV has miniature dimensions but provides excellent high-end thermal imaging for maximum all weather vision.
