Edit, Preferences, CSS Applications, Display, Display Builder, "Show Runtime Perspective Placeholders": Un-check that option.

It's generally best to not use the "Open in new window", "Open in new tab" option at all.
Just as with a web browser, opening new pages is often not helpful, it just leads to a cluttered sceen.
In fact some web browsers consider "popups" a virus and disable them by default.
Just leave the default options, so a new display replaces the original display, and users can use back/forward to navigate back & forth.
If users really, at one time, need to open a display as a new display, they can do that via the context menu or by holding Ctrl and/or Shift when clicking the button, again similar to a web browser where ctrl-click on a link opens that link as a separate tab.
