Hi, recently I discovered that EPICS Base 3.15 still limits the length of PV / record names to 60 characters. Is there any specific reason why this limit is still in place or is it simply that no one bothered to extend it? It seems like there are only two places (dbCommon.dbd and dbDefs.h) where this limit is defined, so I created a simple patch (that is attached to this e-mail) which changes the limit from 60 to 255 characters. This should be enough even for us (my colleagues and I like really long names 😀). Maybe this patch is also useful for someone else (or even makes it into a future release of EPICS Base). Best regards, Sebastian
