A good choice :-)

That's maybe the best you can do for beginners but in our day to day
work at FRIB we also saw lots off issues with remote
repositories/download servers not being available/having issues. We are
now mirroring all our dependencies to internal repositories/web servers.
I haven't heard of any problems lately and as a side effect this is much
faster :-)

Managing a long list of dependencies is a lot of work. With my Puppet
code I often find it easier to specify the versions of 3rd party modules
explicitly and from time to time bump them up all at the same time
(after testing!). Keep in mind that you might miss important security
updates if you do so.
