Hi, Eric!

Slightly off-topic, but just an FYI or if you can't get it to work with
OpenMotif from Homebrew, there's also pkgsrc:

  http://pkgsrc.org/

This is what I mostly use. (I do use Homebrew for some things.) I
build MEDM against Motif (2.3.4) from pkgsrc which is from ICS:

  http://motif.ics.com/

Two nice things about pkgsrc are:

1. It's cross-platform. You can use the same build system to produce
OS X and Linux (among others) packages. Of course, if you only need
packages for OS X, then this isn't of any benefit, but if you do need
packages for other platforms, then this can be a huge win in that you
don't have to learn N packaging systems and maintain M package specs
   in N packaging systems.

2. It has a lot of packages (way more than Homebrew).

I build my packages myself, but there are binary package repositories
where you don't need to build the packages yourself. For example, there
are repositories provided by Joyent:

  https://pkgsrc.joyent.com/

Here's Joyent's repository for Darwin x86_64:

  https://pkgsrc.joyent.com/packages/Darwin/trunk/x86_64/All/

(No octave package, though, at the moment. A package spec exists for
it, but probably it has a build failure on Darwin x86_64, so no package
was created.)

Regards,

Lewis
