I suspect he received an error message saying that the system could not find libXt.a, which really means it could not find libXt.so or libXt.a?

Paramveer,

Our build of MEDM here at the APS is linked against the shared library
version libXt.so, do you really need the static library? If so there is
probably a way to build it yourself from the associated source rpm, but
I'm not the right person to ask how to go about doing that.
