I have tried to add “configure” but got stuck when it seemed that for
each EPICS release, the configure is a bit different. A configure
created with 3.14.12 did not work with 3.14.8 for me. Maybe if I find
some time, I will try again.

@Dirk, why do not you include “configure” in your official StreamDevice
release?
I am considering switching the StreamDevice links on the EPICS website
to point to the synApps github repo, since your releases have been an
unfortunate cause of confusion and time-wasting for many new EPICS users
like Peter and Yong.
I understand that the module is designed to be able to build on both
Base-3.14 and Base-3.13, but I suspect that only PSI uses StreamDevice
on Base-3.13. The rest of the community would much prefer to download a
standard 3.14 module, edit the configure/RELEASE file and run 'make'.
Since you now use git which supports submodules, would you consider
using something like that to make releases that build under Base-3.14
and higher right out of the box?
