Hi Stephen,

The CA protocol isn't particularly simple so I wouldn't really recommend trying to write your own implementation even of just part of it. However there is documentation of the packet types and their contents available; if you do go into this you'll want to install the Wireshark plugin for debugging purposes, the one from Michael Davidsaver is probably the most up to date. Here's the documentation:
Don't worry about mixing versions, I don't think we actually document the most recent additions to the protocol here yet anyway.
