The most common reference is the website address
http://www.aps.anl.gov/epics/
but if you want to cite a published paper the original overview paper
that I think is most commonly given is
L. R. Dalesio, M. R. Kraimer, and A. J. Kozubal. "EPICS
architecture." ICALEPCS. Vol. 91. 1991.
a copy of which can be found at
