While I was at BNL I tested and setup an archiver appliance system for NSLS2.  For deployment we (meaning Leon Flaks) worked with Martin Konrad from FRIB on a scheme using puppet.  Since I left BNL the system is being looked after by Anton Derbenev.

I did a fair amount of performance testing while developing a python library for retrieval. https://github.com/epicsdeb/carchivetools.  The first thing to mention is that retrieval is much faster (~50x) than ArchiveDataServer.  While this number is more a commentary on how inefficient xmlrpc is,  than on how good archiver appliance is, the speedup impresses users.  In the end I think I was able to demonstrate performance bounded by server disk I/O speed.

I presented this at the spring 2015 collaboration meeting at FRIB.

Hello,

Diamond Light Source is looking into archivers to replace our Channel Archiver. I wanted to reach to anyone who has deployed the EPICS Archiver Appliance at their institution.

If so, I was looking, for example, for information on performance testing and discussions about deployment. Any information regarding the deployment would be very useful, too.

Thanks,

Michael Kenning

Student Intern at Diamond Light Source
