Make sure that you test every type of VME slave board that you're going
to be using with a real MVME3100 CPU before you go ahead and buy them
all, we have found that some of the older VME boards designed in the age
of 68K-based CPUs don't work with the Universe and/or Tempe VME
interface chips used on the newer CPUs. In some cases we've been able to
fix the slave or adjust the driver software, but you might find that you
need to replace some of your older board types.

The MVME3100 is based on a different PowerPC CPU family than the other
PowerPC MVME boards which has a deeper and more aggressively optimized
write pipeline, so drivers that work fine on an MVME2100, 5100 or 6100
board may need changing slightly to work with the 3100. This usually
just involves adding a dummy read of the last register written to at the
end of the interrupt service routine (the read operation causes the CPU
to wait until the write pipeline has been flushed).

- Andrew
