I received the message below last night from someone named John.  I believe it is a legitimate messages asking for help on Modbus.  However, it appears to come from a blacklisted e-mail address at Argonne, so I cannot reply directly.

I am hoping that the sender reads tech-talk, so here is the reply.  Please either use tech-talk to reply or send a message from another e-mail address.

Your record has probably not yet been processed, since SEVR=INVALID and STAT=UDF.  Please send your sim1.cmd (renamed to .txt so it gets though the mailer) and the database you used.

Hi Mark,

I am trying to test the modbus module on EPICS, I am using the sim1.cmd to connect with a modbus slave simulator. It looks connection is OK, there is no any warning message in IOC site. But when I modified the coil value in simulator slave , I use the dbpr command to verify it , I can't find any change:

dbpr SIM1:BO0B
ASG:                DESC:               DISA: 0             DISP: 0
DISV: 1             NAME: SIM1:BO0B     RBV: 0              RVAL: 0
SEVR: INVALID       STAT: UDF           TPRO: 0             VAL: 0

I config the modbus slave simulator is :

address : 0001

length : 128

modbus point type : 01:coil status

I think it should be right because I use modbus server to verified it. The simulator server always can read the simulator slave variables correctly.

Did I miss something?

Thanks

John
