Hi Ralph,

I would like recommend you to test APC 7921 for your purpose. It supports SNMPv1/v2c/v3 and serial connection.

  * EPICS

You can use FRIB's 3rd generation EPICS driver in order to control them via EPICS. We tested them, and it works well so far. However, FRIB SNMP doesn't match what actually we want, so we are developing our own EPICS support. Of course, you can directly use the SNMP command.

  * controllable using a decent interface (prefer ASCII over web server)

It has the Ethernet and Serial interfaces. Several years ago, I did several time serial connection through serial server (digi portserver) with a homemade serial cable between APC7921 and digi portserver. It saved my time when the cheap network switch was dead during data taking, because the digi portserver used a dedicated Ethernet connection instead of a network switch. So, technically, asyn can do this if you want to integrate them into EPICS if you prefer a serial connection over web server (serial server)

  * small and affordable (rather 5 than 20 outlets).

   1U, 8 outlets, and rack mountable.

  * radiation hardened

I don't know much about any quantitative results. But I can say, I used several APC units (some old, some APC7921) in the experimental hall while I was working at Jefferson Lab. The devices which I managed were located in a dog-house (a concreted bunker). And a device (a bit APC old model) was located in the backward position of the liquid hydrogen target. This old model was used in that hall long ago before I was there. And it didn't response several times during my duty (2 years).

  * magnetic field hardened.

   I have no idea about this.

   Thanks,
   Han

Dear All,

We are looking for remote controllable power strips, to be mounted in
19" racks (full size and small units).
It would be great if they'd be

  * radiation hardened
  * magnetic field hardened
  * controllable using a decent interface (prefer ASCII over web server)
  * small and affordable (rather 5 than 20 outlets).

Any ideas or pointers?

Thanks a lot!
~Ralph
