The EPICS V4 Working Group are pleased to announce the final release of
the latest version of our EPICS V4 software.

Version 4.4 brings simplicity, elegance and performance to many facets
of EPICS V4. It improves and extends the communication protocol,
pvAccess, and adds dynamic data typing through union types. The C++ API
and implementation has been greatly improved, allowing the creation of
high performance applications.

Two implementations are provided for the main modules, one written in
C++ and the other in Java. The C++ implementation compiles for recent
versions of Linux, MacOS, Windows, VxWorks 6.x and RTEMS, and requires
an installation of EPICS Base 3.14.12 (Base 3.15.1 can also be used for
most modules, but the pvaSrv software that provides IOC integration
cannot be built with Base 3.15.1). The Java implementation requires Java
version 7 or later.

Three new alpha libraries are included: pvDatabaseCPP is a C++-only
framework for creating services accessible via pvAccess; pvaPy provides
Python bindings for the pvAccess API; and the normativeTypesCPP module
supports the standard Normative Type data structures. Microsoft Windows
has also been added to the list of supported platforms.

Downloads of both implementations are available from SourceForge:
    https://sourceforge.net/projects/epics-pvdata/files/4.4.0/

More technical details and documentation can be found through the EPICS
V4 project website:
    http://epics-pvdata.sourceforge.net/index.html

Questions and discussion about the EPICS V4 should be directed to this
EPICS tech-talk mailing list.

Many thanks to all the members of the V4 Working Group, and to everyone
who helped develop and test this version of the software.

- Andrew Johnson and Greg White, V4 WG chairs
