Embarrassingly enough, I had forgotten to include stdlib.h, so every GET function which involved a conversion function with atof was returning 0...

Thanks Eric, Mark for the help! Just to wrap up - as far as I can tell, changing -1 to 19 in TraceMask and TraceIOMask gives the same behavior as moving TraceMask/TraceIOMask below iocInit, so both ways work.

I would suspect not, because that device would not exist at that time.  But perhaps doing so creates the device?
 
Ana said changing -1 to 19 worked, but was that with the command before iocInit or after iocInit?
