Folks,

Just a follow up to say that the problem with building medm on Ubuntu14.04 is resolved.  There was some change in Ubuntu between 12 and 13 that requires additional linker flags.

The problem appears to be that Ubuntu now requires the -ldl flag to the linker.  I think you can set the environment variable LIBS=-ldl

At the first, I use 憇udo apt-get install libX11-dev' to install libX11, and it's version is 1.6.2-1ubuntu2. I  uninstalled it and tried a lower version1.6.1 instead yesterday, the result of 'make' is the same as before.

When you installed libX11 how did you do it?  Did you use the package manager for Ubuntu?  It should not let you install the wrong version.  When you installed the lower version did you get exactly the same error as on the higher version?

For CSS I am not an expert, but I know there is online documentation.

thanks for your reply! I just tried a lower vision for libX11, but it still didn't work, is there any other way to fix it? if I use CSS instead of MEDM, where could I find any instruction or guideline? thanks!

It looks to me like the version of libX11.a you have installed is newer than the version of glibc that you have on that system.  On Fedora libX11 comes from the package libX11-devel.  Is it possible that you installed a version of libX11 that is more recent than your version of Linux supports?

I want to use 'areadetector' to control 'Prosilica GC750' camera for the first time. when I install 'medm' on ubuntu14.04 on my computer, it can't make successfully, the err as follows:
